My name is Marnie Mead, and I’ve been cooking since I was 9 – that’s more than 40 years. It’s how I relax. It’s how I give back to my family. It’s how I discover the world.
My love of food allows me to travel, sometimes leading culinary adventures to Italy and France and someday to Ireland. But mostly I explore in my home kitchen. I try to use ingredients that are readily available to home cooks and sourced within 150 miles of my Lake Erie home. But that would exclude so many ingredients that are available today, such as olive oil, citrus and anything chocolate, so you will find those recipes here as well.
In the coming months, I will be expanding to offer dinners delivered. These are based on the same principles as my home kitchen – working with local farmers to create meals that sourced within 150 miles of our community.
Why Meadballs? Because I am one of four kids. In the summer, we would hit the road to travel to the shores of Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, New York, and New Jersey. We called ourselves the Meadballs.
Those summers were special because we ate local – long before that was trendy. We dug clams dug from the sand and sea. We bought fish from the docks. We stopped at farm stands for fresh blueberries, corn, tomatoes, and greens.
So that’s what a Meadball is. A taste of family, of farm, of fun.
